How it works
USDA guaranteed loans are backed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to encourage homeownership outside major cities. Plenty of areas within driving distance of larger towns may be eligible, so it's worth checking an address before ruling it out.
May be a good fit for
- Buyers purchasing in a USDA-eligible area
- Households under the area's income limit (based on household size and county)
- Buyers who want little to no money down
- Primary residence buyers
Good to know
- Both the property location and your total household income must qualify
- There's an upfront guarantee fee (can typically be financed) and a smaller annual fee paid monthly
- Eligible area maps can change, so we'll verify the specific address
- USDA files can take a bit longer, so building in some time helps
